Our new customer wanted the option to deliver stock items in a later stage at their warehouse. So far all containers have been delivered by truck. However when containers stay a longer time on the quay the costs of demurrage and quay rent will rise quickly.
Berkman Forwarding advised their client that the stock items could be delivered by barge. This resulted in significant cost savings because the containers were collected whithin the free time of demurrage which was nt the case in the previous situation.
This solution resulted in containers which were delivered in a later stage without extra charges. And last but not least the cost of transportation by barge was also lower than transport by truck. In short, a win-win situation for our customers.
Intermodal transport
Berkman Forwarding offers different transport modes. Custom-made solutions can be offered in order to have the best mode of transport for our customers.
In case of urgent deliveries transport by truck is the best and fastest way of transport. Nowadays transport by barge is becoming more important as this mode is, cost-wise, an interesting alternative. Also "green logistics" is becoming a more important argument to transport goods compared with transport by truck.
We offer alternative methods such as transport by barge and rail or a combination of modes. Rail transport is an upcoming way of transport. With the infrastructure of the "Betuwewelijn" we can offer rail transport for various hinterland destinations.
